第70回日本医真菌学会総会・学術集会

　この度、第70回日本医真菌学会総会・学術集会を、2026年11月21日（土）～22日（日）の2日間、八王子市の東京たま未来メッセにて開催させていただくことになりました。本学会の70回という節目の大会を主宰させていただきますこと、大変光栄に存じます。

　本大会のテーマは「格物致知とワンヘルス：真菌症から見る地球の健全性」といたしました。英文では、Kakubutsu Chichi and One Health — Exploring Planetary Health through the Medical Mycologist’s Loupe分かり難いかもしれないので、副題として、Reconsidering fungal diseases not merely as infections, but as complex health challenges involving toxins, allergens, and environmental imbalances — a true One Health issue through the lens of Kakubutsu Chichiを置いてみました。

　格物致知とは、物事の本質を究めることで真の知識に到達するという中国古典に由来する概念です。わが国においては、実学志向の本草学を介して博物学的自然科学への発展を促した思想的基盤となりました。真菌（カビ）と人類（ヒト）の関係を深く探究することで、地球環境の健全性という普遍的な問いに迫りたいと考えております。

　近年、わが国で発見・命名されたCandida aurisをはじめとする新興真菌症の世界的な拡大は、気候変動、国際交流の活発化、医療の高度化といった人類活動の変化と密接に関連しています。真菌症は、もはや医学のみならず、獣医学、環境科学、土壌科学を包含するワンヘルスの視点から捉えるべき課題となっています。

　本大会では、Westerdijk菌類生物多様性研究所長のProf. Wieland Meyer、英国Manchester大学の Prof. David W. Denning、韓国医真菌学会会長のProf. Hyojin Kimをはじめとする海外の著名な研究者をお招きすると共に、ISHAM Working Groupsとの共催セミナーや、日本獣医皮膚科学会との共催シンポジウムなど、学際的なプログラムを企画しております。また、市民公開講座としては、日本菌学会コラボ企画、宇宙環境医学講演や、恒例・好評の医真菌写真展・鑑賞会に加え、話題の土壌学者：藤井一至先生をお招きし、土壌と真菌の関係から地球環境を考える機会も設けました。

　70年の歴史を刻んできた本学会を、帝京大学医真菌研究センターの所在地である八王子市で開催できますことは大変意義深いことと考えております。地域と連携しながら、国内外の研究者・臨床家が集う学術交流の場を提供できることを心より嬉しく存じます。多くの皆様のご参加を心よりお待ち申し上げております。

Presidential Address
The 70th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Medical Mycology

It is my great honor to serve as the President of the 70th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Medical Mycology, to be held on November 21-22, 2026, at Tokyo Tama Mirai Messe in Hachioji City. This milestone 70th meeting represents a significant moment in the history of our Society.

The theme of this congress is "Kakubutsu Chichi and One Health: Exploring Planetary Health through the Medical Mycologist's Loupe." For those unfamiliar with this concept, we have provided a subtitle: "Reconsidering fungal diseases not merely as infections, but as complex health challenges involving toxins, allergens, and environmental imbalances — a true One Health issue through the lens of Kakubutsu Chichi."

Kakubutsu Chichi is a concept derived from classical Chinese philosophy, representing the pursuit of true knowledge through investigating the essence of things. In Japan, this philosophy served as an intellectual foundation that facilitated the evolution from practical herbalism (Honzōgaku) to natural history and scientific inquiry. By deeply exploring the relationship between fungi and humanity, we aim to address the universal question of planetary health.

In recent years, the global spread of emerging fungal pathogens, including Candida auris—which I had the privilege of discovering and naming in Japan—has been closely linked to changes in human activities such as climate change, increased international travel, and advances in medical care. Fungal diseases must now be understood not only from a medical perspective but also through the lens of One Health, encompassing veterinary medicine, environmental science, and soil science.

This congress will feature distinguished international speakers, including Prof. Wieland Meyer, Director of the Westerdijk Fungal Biodiversity Institute; Prof. David W. Denning from the University of Manchester, UK; and Prof. Hyojin Kim, President of the Korean Society for Medical Mycology. We have organized interdisciplinary programs including joint seminars with ISHAM Working Groups and a collaborative symposium with the Japanese Society of Veterinary Dermatology. Additionally, public outreach events will include collaborations with the Mycological Society of Japan, lectures on space environmental medicine, our traditional and popular Medical Mycology Photo Exhibition, and a special presentation by the renowned soil scientist Dr. Kazushi Fujii, exploring the relationship between soil and fungi in the context of global environmental health.

As our Society marks 70 years of history, it is deeply meaningful to hold this congress in Hachioji City, home to Teikyo University Institute of Medical Mycology. We are delighted to provide a venue for academic exchange where researchers and clinicians from around the world can gather, working in partnership with our local community.
